Music, DJs, dancers, cocktails and complimentary bao

To celebrate six whole rotations around the sun, one of the Northern Quarter’s best-looking cocktail bars is throwing a huge birthday party next week - and everybody is invited. After missing out on a fifth birthday bash last year thanks to you know what, Cottonopolis has decided to go all out for one night of free cocktails, food and music.

Amongst the towering beams of the Grade II listed building it lives in, Cottonopolis will host the generous bash

Named for the 19th-century nickname for Manchester, Cottonopolis opened its doors back in 2015 and has been a popular haunt on the Manchester restaurant scene ever since. Gordo loved the food when he reviewed in 2016, calling the prawn tempura, well, “fucking fantastic” and the bar scooped two awards in the 2018 Imbibe ‘Drink’s List of the Year’ awards.

So, if you love the contemporary Japanese stylings of Cottonopolis’ cocktails, have worked your way through the copious menu of sashimi, maki rolls and dumplings, and have ever stopped in half way through the night just to scoff one of their chicken karaage bao while throngs of people are dancing away around you, this is probably the night for you.

Amongst the towering beams of the Grade II listed building it lives in, Cottonopolis will host the generous bash with live music from resident funky disco DJs Joy Social and Good Custard and a mysterious-sounding “immersive performance” that will see dancers from the bar’s Paradiso party nights take to the floor, tables and probably hanging from the ceiling too.

Get your hands on free cocktails from Japanese drinks brand Suntory and free Kirin beers, as well as (and we can’t stress the importance of this enough) one of 600 free bao that will all be available on the night.

Doors for the party open at 7pm on Thursday 18 November but we recommend starting to queue around, say, midday just to be safe.
