Best and brightest in hospitality honoured at New Century Hall

The Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards took place last night (Monday 27 January) and hosted a celebration of the best in the city’s hospitality scene.

The annual awards, honouring the best in food and drink across Greater Manchester, took place once again at New Century Hall and saw 18 winners announced for the likes of Food and Drink Retailer of the Year, Neighbourhood Venue of the Year and, of course, Restaurant of the Year.

Also given out was The Howard and Ruth Award for Outstanding Achievement, which was awarded to Sam Buckley, chef/owner of Where the Light Gets In, the Stockport holder of a Michelin Green Star currently staging a series of pop-up restaurants in the form of A Play in the City.

The evening was hosted by BBC North West Tonight reporter and broadcaster, Anna Jameson, along with Manchester’s Finest presenter Matty White

Shortlisted venues were put to the public vote via the MFDF website where thousands of food and drink fans voted for their favourite winner. Scores from a mystery shopping visit, carried out by members of the judging panel, were also combined with the public vote for some of the awards to determine the winners.

Alexa Stratton-Powell, Awards Director of Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards said: “We’re thrilled to be announcing this list of incredible winners. In such tough times for the industry, we want to thank, support and celebrate every nominee and winner and their fantastic achievements.

“We hope that the food fans of Greater Manchester and beyond will be inspired to go out and support all of these exceptional venues that we are so lucky to have on our doorstep.”
