Deansgate Square gets competition in the tallest building stakes

PLANS for a new 55-storey skyscraper in Salford have just gone public, revealing it to become one of the tallest buildings in the city centre. Developers hope that the towering building will be a welcome addition to the skyline of this up-and-coming part of the city as it takes shape on a car park on New Bridge Street near Trinity Way, not far from Victoria Station.

The new building would be second in height only to the imposing South Tower at Renaker’s Deansgate Square development

Salford has seen significant changes and regeneration in recent years and these latest plans are hoped to complement the area and meet the needs of local residents. Nick Berry from the architects OMI says he has been working in conjunction with the council in order to create plans for a building that achieves these aims. He says: “We have worked closely with Salford City Council to create a building that not only ties in with Salford’s aspirations for the area but will make a significant contribution to the skyline of this emerging quarter of the city.”

The scheme is being called One Heritage and a public consultation on the plans, which set out provision of one, two and three bed apartments and also include a second 16-storey building, is being carried out by the developers, One Heritage Property Developments, whose chief executive is Peter Cheung, with consultants Euan Kellie Property Solutions advising on the planning application. A consultation event is being held on Tuesday 10th September, between 4pm and 8pm at Arlington House on Bloom Street, near the King’s Arms pub in Salford.

The new building would be second in height only to the imposing South Tower at Renaker’s Deansgate Square development, where half of the apartments have been let in just three months. Rent for flats in the West Tower of the Deansgate Square scheme start at £1,095 a month, but the cost is apparently not putting off potential tenants, with more than half of the 44-storey, 201-metre high tower’s 350 apartments now reserved.

The Deansgate Square scheme is one of the biggest in the city and includes Manchester’s tallest tower. The One Heritage skyscraper would be its second.
