Brunch, lunch or dinner, this Spinningfields oasis is one of our favourite places to dine al fresco

When it comes to outdoor dining, it doesn’t get much handier than Beastro. Located in Spinningfields, a stone’s throw from the River Irwell, it’s ideal for city centre workers after a speedy breakfast, lunch or even brunch. Evening diners, meanwhile, can enjoy a more leisurely meal away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Deansgate.

The terrace is gorgeous, that perfect balance between shade and sun, and fresh flowers decorate the tables. Food, meanwhile, is some of the best value we’ve seen in Manchester: on a recent lunchtime visit, we enjoyed two generous dishes for just £5 each.

Beastro Halloumi Salad
Halloumi and roast red pepper bowl

First was a halloumi and roast red pepper bowl - filled to the brim with mixed leaves, tomato, red pepper and courgette in a light chimichurri dressing, topped with three whacking great pieces of grilled halloumi. Second, a steak tagliata salad with rocket, parmesan, tomatoes and grilled courgette in a zesty lemon dressing. Steak was juicy medium-rare and there was plenty of it, astonishing for a fiver. We enjoyed with freshly-squeezed orange juice, and a side of crispy sweet potato fries to share.

Both lunch and dinner menus have ample choice too, spanning lighter dishes to heavier. For lunch, there’s a range of chicken and speciality steak sarnies and wraps, alongside vegetarian-friendly dishes like salad bowls and smashed avocado (most just £5). Something more substantial? You’ll also find sausage and mash, pasta of the day and steak and chips.

Still have room? The desserts here taste as good as they look and are available at both lunch and dinner (we particularly recommend the sticky toffee pud, and flapjack - it’s legendary for a reason). Dinner is equally diverse - catering to everyone from pescatarians to veggies and committed carnivores - and you can get two courses with a glass of small wine for just £19.50, or three for £23.50.
