INDIAN Tiffin Room has already set Cheadle alight with its delicious street food that shows a thorough understanding of the cooking and traditions of the subcontinent. Now it has brought its own particular blend of culinary magic to First Street.

The perfect midday wake up call for your taste buds

Light and airy with floor to ceiling windows and tables which are a cute take on the chaat cart, ITR brings the street inside. The menu puts the emphasis firmly on the real India. If you want to discover what Indian street food actually tastes like, let Confidential show you the very best of ITR.

Lunch Menu

Chicken Kati Roll

At just £5, the chicken kati roll is a substantial lunchtime snack. Wrapped in a flatbread, the chicken is tender and moist, its tikka spicing dances on the tongue when paired with the accompanying spicy mint and tangy chutney. The perfect midday wake up call for your taste buds.

Paneer Tikka Salad

Set on a bed of salad, mint and pomegranate jewels, the creaminess of paneer is enhanced by the tang of the marinade and the subtle charred smokiness from the grill. A definite Confidential favourite.

Non-Vegetarian Thali

The thalis at ITR are a generous riot of flavour, spice, texture and feel-good wholesome cooking. A typical thali includes a large and tasty puffed-up puri that's perfect for scooping up all the other bits and bobs, fluffy rice, vegetable korma, creamy chicken chettinad, raita, passarattu – a mildly spiced moong dal crepe – and spicy potatoes which are enlivened by a gentle warmth from the cumin seeds and contain a subtle background note of aniseed. Put together from a selection of the chef's favourites of the day, it's a veritable feast.

Kesari Bath (also available at dinner)

Indian desserts are known for their sweetness but kesari bath is a satisfying end to any meal which reins in the sugar and allows the flavour of the semolina cooked in saffron milk to shine through.

Kulfi (also available at dinner)

Another home-made dessert from the ITR team, the kulfi is creamy and refreshing. The gentle pistachio flavour makes this like a delicious and grown up ice cream.

Dinner Menu

Bhindi Fry

A fantastic appetiser, the bhindi fry are slivers of battered okra which have a definite kick. The fiery spicing didn't stop us coming back for more. One nibble and we were hooked, diving into the dish again and again until we realised that we'd polished them all off in record time.

Chilli Squid

This dish is full of sunshine – it will bring a smile to even the most dour of souls. Colourful, lively and vibrant, the squid is soft and the accompanying peppers, spring onions and moreish sauce sing together in beautiful harmony. Everything complements the other, there is not a single jarring or strident note.

Madurai Masala Dosa

At Confidential, we've raved about ITR's dosas before. The madurai masala dosa is no exception. Served with a spicy lentil sambar, a coconut chutney and a chilli chutney on the side, the dosa is light and crisp with a potato masala filling. The red chilli chutney is a big sour hit that brings everything together perfectly.

Lamb Nalli Nihari

Unctuous and tender, this is lamb that's quite literally falling off the bone. A beautifully slow-cooked shank is the centrepiece of this dish with its rich, meaty taste. Simple in appearance, the depth of flavour is something you just have to try.

Gulab Jamun (also available at lunch)

Sweet but not sickly, gulab jamun is a fantastic finale to a meal at ITR. Deep-fried milk dumplings are dipped in sugar syrup flavoured with rose extract. It tastes exotic and indulgent – just the way a dessert should taste.

Whatever you order at Indian Tiffin Room, prepare to take your taste buds on exciting tour of India's streets and kitchens. It's not just the food that will delight – everything from the cocktails to the Indian wines, are designed to complement the menu and enhance your whole experience.
