THE BIERKELLER specialises in authentic German beers and food and, as anyone who’s ever been to a Christmas market will know, that means plenty of sausage.
Good news for sausage fans
Diners at the Bavarian complex in The Printworks have been proving that when it comes to German sausage, there’s no such thing as too much by taking on Bierkeller’s famous Grossen Teller. The giant platter is piled up with two bratwurst, two signature kaserkraner, two spicy bratwurst, two smoked hot dogs and two garlic bratwurst. As if all that wasn’t enough, you get skinny fries and sauerkraut on the side.
The mammoth meat feast was actually designed to be shared between five but lots of Bierkeller customers are keen to ignore that fact and tuck in.
‘When we first came up with the Grossen Teller, we imagined a big group of friends or family ordering it to have between them,’ explained Isaac Mayne, head of marketing and promotions, ‘But we obviously underestimated just how hungry some of our customers are, how big their appetites are…and how much they love sausage.’
‘Now we regularly have two or three mates managing to polish off the whole lot which is quite a feat. We’re yet to have one person manage the whole platter but there’s nothing, other than sheer quantity, stopping them from giving it a go if they think they can handle it.’
The Grossen Teller is one of the most popular dishes on Manchester’s Bierkeller menu but all three bars in the Bierkeller complex are about to receive some exciting new additions to their menus ready for winter.
Good news for sausage fans – the Grossen Teller and the other favourites will remain but they will be joined by extra dishes to broaden the appeal of the menu.
Strange as it may seem, not everyone loves sausage. Bierkeller customers will now also have the option of a stacked chicken burger with crispy bacon and cheese in a brioche bun, sticky ribs in a BBQ sauce and an 8oz steak served with chunky chips.
‘We didn’t want to take away any of the Bavarian specials which are so popular,’ said group executive chef, Kevin Hill. ‘We added dishes which were traditional and complemented our existing menu – burger, ribs and steak seemed the obvious choice. They go perfectly with the steins of beer too.’
Try the new dishes or gear up for the Grossen Teller at Bierkeller.
