LAMPSHADES have attacked Peppermint Bay and they look good.
Manchester’s best Palm House dining experience has floated cute, chintzy living room lampshades high into the building. The effect is not unlike Chinese lanterns swaying up into the New Year’s Eve sky. Uplifting.
They complement the handsome food arranged along a sexy deli counter.
Confidential went in this week and attacked the food with something akin to frenzy.
We ate the place out of food.
We had a Greek salad, a spicy chorizo pasta, lamb and rosemary ragout, Thai red soup, carrot and coriander soup, a cous cous stuffed tofu parcel, a salmon and dill pasta, meatballs and pasta, various sushi, a duck egg mayonnaise and red cress sandwich plus a vast array of flatbread sandwiches including salt’n’pepper chicken, teriyaki beef, tuna, ham and cheese – sort of everything including the kitchen sink.
Tastebuds were set on fire by the ragout, the salad, the cous cous affair and the wonderful, light and very authentic sushi. The flatbreads went down a treat as well.
The Greek salad was filled with boulders of feta cheese - creamy and crumbly – with lovely olives packed with flavour and juice. The chorizo pasta had a great kick set off by a creamy tomato sauce. The ragout had big chunks of lamb, with melt in the mouth tenderness, and subtle but telling influence from the rosemary.
The Thai chicken soup was a proper filler with pieces of roast chicken and packed with noodles livened up by a balanced chilli kick and a clever collation of coconut milk. The duck egg mayonnaise and red cress sandwich was lush, big-hearted, rammed with filling yet finessed detail.
The flatbreads are stars folks. They were all adored. The pick was the salt’n’pepper chicken with mayo and lettuce, which was sturdy, bold and filled with big flavours.
The good news is that you can get all this for half price. Fifty percent off.
