Vapiano opens in the Corn Exchange soon. It’s Italian; it does pizzas, anti-pasta, pasta dishes, desserts and sunshine.
Not another Italian, I hear you groan… just one more YAFI (readers may recall Gordo coining this phrase a few years back on the fifth opening of an Italian restaurant here in sunny Mancunia – it means ‘Yet Another Fucking Italian’).
However, Vapiano is very different. For a start, the pasta and breads are made on the premises right in front of you at the The Manifattura' (The Factory). Pizzas are ordered at the pizza station, you’re then given a bleeper and two or three minutes later, BLEEP, and, well, blimey, you go collect your pizza pie and snaffle it at a table of your choosing.
Over at the salad station, a very nice person knocks you up a fresh salad, again in front of you, then comes the best of the lot, picking which of twelve pastas and myriad sauces you want with your Spicy Italian sausage and fresh figs. That’s all tossed together in a wok as you stand gawping.
Each time you choose something, you are asked to press your key card - which is given to you by a pretty young thing as you walk in - onto a small screen as it tots up the bill.
When you’ve finished scoffing you hand the card in, get a bill off another pretty young thing and pay. Dead simple. And the food is top. Watch the video below:
