Needed urgently: Black families interested in adoption

Black children make up a disproportionate number of those in care. They wait longer than white children to find a family. This is heart-breaking but true.

There simply aren’t enough Black and dual heritage families coming forward to provide a home for these children. If you’re Black or dual heritage and you’re interested in growing your family through adoption, we’d love to hear from you.

Children who are adopted experience a fundamental change in their lives. It’s important that they can hold on to their heritage.

When adoptive families share the same culture, it helps the child’s well-being and sense of identity. This feeling of belonging is so important for adopted children and it is created by sharing traditions, language and food together.

Black adopters know only too well the prejudices and discrimination that can be a part of life in the UK and they are best placed to support a child through any obstacles they may face with empathy and understanding.

The importance of finding Black adopters in Greater Manchester and Cheshire cannot be overstated. The more Black families who go through the adoption process, the more inspiration it gives to other families in the community who might consider adoption. We need to change the experience of Black children awaiting adoption because they deserve a family as much as anyone else, and as quickly as any other child.

If you could offer a stable, loving and secure home for a Black child, please get in touch and find out more about adoption with Adoption Counts.
