That’s five years of finding families for children who are waiting to be adopted. Five years of fitting together potential parents with those children who are looking for a forever family. Five years of being a part of something magical. Five years of supporting people like you change their own lives through adoption – and transform their children’s lives too.
Five years ago, Adoption Counts was formed, bringing together the skills and expertise of five local authorities: Manchester City Council, Stockport Council, Salford City Council, Trafford Council and Cheshire East Council. Since then, we have approved over 440 adopters.
We encourage adoption enquiries from across the community, regardless of age (although you need to be over 21), gender, sexual orientation, race, faith or disability. It doesn’t matter if you’re single, widowed, divorced or living together. All families are different and all adoptive families are different too.
In fact, we would particularly like to hear from people who are willing to adopt children aged three years and above, sibling groups, children from a minority ethnic background (particularly from Black African and Black Caribbean communities) and children with complex needs. These children often wait a long time to find families to adopt them. We would love to give these children the opportunity to flourish – but we need your help.
If you’re interested in adopting a child we will support you every step of the way, from the first phone call and throughout your adoption journey. Because adoption is hard. It requires commitment. But it is also one of the most rewarding and fulfilling things you can ever do – opening your heart to someone who needs your love.
Adoption Counts is your local Regional Adoption Agency. We work with families in and around the Greater Manchester and Cheshire East area and the scale of our organisation means we are able to widen our scope to find adoptive parents and children who are just right for each other, creating family bonds that last a lifetime.
