A roast turkey dinner is a wonderful thing but after your third in as many days, your tastebuds often crave something more intriguing. Likewise, a month of enthusiastic meat eating can leave you hankering for wholesome, vegetarian food, for one night at least.
They've also added to their range of fresh, take-home curry sauces made by their chefs.
If this sounds like you, head to Lily's in Ashton this Christmas holiday for a break from the usual Xmas eating regime.
This Indian vegetarian restaurant wins our unofficial award for 'most unlikely success of 2014'. Essentially a café on an industrial estate with its own supermarket next door, it was given a place in the Good Food Guide this year, and received a great review in The Guardian, praising its 'heroically cheap' and 'voluptuous' food (we got in there first, of course, telling Confidential readers about Lily's back in 2013.)
For the festive season, they've introduced two new dishes. The Masalatar Vegetable and Soya Kebab and the Achari Paneer Tikka Masala – both pictured.
They've also added to their range of fresh, take-home curry sauces made by their chefs. These are very popular at Christmas and New Year with people catering for parties – they’re an easy way to feed large numbers of guests. And they’re great at turning bland Xmas leftovers into a zingy, authentic curry.
The new sauce is the Makhani – a creamy, sweet and sour curry with a tomato base, garlic, ginger and chillies. They also sell fresh, chef-made Vindaloo and Tikka sauces. Quantities are big but they freeze well, and it means you've always got a easy, non-processed dinner solution to keep you going in the New Year.
Lily's is open every day except Christmas Day. If you've got a spare afternoon or evening over the holidays, go and see what all the fuss is about.
