Twelve new businesses will be given a shot at running a restaurant
A TV production company will take over two restaurant spaces in Manchester’s Spinningfields this November to film a new show about the ins-and-outs of the restaurant business.
Electric Ray – the company behind hit BBC documentary the Class of 92: Out of Their League, which charted the takeover of Salford City FC by former Manchester United stars including Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs – will occupy Beastro and The Kitchens on Leftbank for three weeks in November.
The show – to be aired next year on BBC Two – will give twelve new businesses the opportunity to run a restaurant over three days, offering an insight into what it takes to not only create but deliver a new dining concept.
The TV project is a continuation of Spinningfields’ original Kitchens project, which in 2015 saw six local street food businesses pitched against one another for the chance to win a permanent restaurant space and funding from estate owners Allied London. (Bangers and Bacon emerged victors, opening Beastro on Leftbank in March.)
Work has already begun to convert the empty space opposite Beastro, with filming expecting to begin as soon as November 3.
