SO we all know the basic pancake mix of eggs, flour, milk, water. Or perhaps you’re an instant batter tosser?

Either way, when it comes to Shrove Tuesday, there are simply some pancakes that are batter than all the rest. And chefs from Oak Street Café in the Northern Quarter’s Craft and Design Centre, are looking for a pancake recipe to flatten the competition.

"We’ll celebrate the winner by inviting them and three guests to Oak Street Café for a free pancake and a freshly made hot drink."

They say the strangest, most creative, but most delicious combination of pancake flavours sent to them will be judged by pancake enthusiasts, leading to the finest being officially named the pancake of perfection. They are on a quest to find out just how far people can push their flavour combinations.

Karen Hadgett, Manager of Oak Street Café, said: “Lemon and sugar is a classic combination and, on a pancake flipped perfectly, is a difficult one to beat. But, the UK is home to the best ingredients and the liveliest imaginations, so we want to find those flavour combinations that go one step further, taking pancake making to the next level.

What makes the perfect pancake? What makes the perfect pancake?

“Someone may have a pancake mix recipe that has been handed down for generations that has an unexpected twist. We’ll celebrate the winner by inviting them and three guests to Oak Street Café for a free pancake and a freshly made hot drink.”

Anyone who thinks they have a recipe beyond compare are invited to tweet details and pictures to the café team @OakStreetCafeNQ or by e-mailing oakstreetcafenq@gmail.com

All of the recipes received by Saturday 9 February will be judged by the café’s chefs before the best three are made for a taste test.  Oak Street Café chefs, staff and designers from Manchester Craft and Design Centre will be enlisted to be part of the tasting team before the winner is revealed on Monday 11 February.
