VEGETARIANS get a bad deal when it comes to fine-dining. Our options are limited in Manchester (as in most cities) and expectations when dining out at non-veggie places are middling to low.

The menu sings with spring flavours and gourmet ingredients

So it's with a certain degree of glee that we see the new Vegetarian Tasting Menu from Michael Caines at Abode. It's a nine course experience, with matched wines if you like, and it reads like a dream. If you're a veggie and a foodie (yes, we exist) you're about to get quite excited.

Parfait MadieraParfait MadieraThe menu sings with spring flavours and gourmet ingredients, from pheasant egg to white asparagus to courgette flowers served with gazpacho and goats cheese. These dishes range from the delicate to the bold, and from savoury to sweet (Valrhona caramelia chocolate mousse, anyone?) Executive chef Robert Cox has been tweaking them for weeks, and is looking forward to seeing what Manchester's vegetarians make of his handiwork.

The option of matched wines takes the experience to another level. They've all been carefully chosen to complement each dish, and with servings of 100 or 75ml, they won't leave you feeling too tipsy to fully appreciate the food.

Michael Caines at Abode is a gorgeous setting for a delectable dinner like this. It's a sleek, sophisticated restaurant, removed from the hustle and bustle. There's no loud music or obtrusive service – it's all about letting you focus on your dinner and your companions.

The price reflects the quality and attention to detail that goes into the tasting menu (sample menu published in full below). The nine courses are priced from £80-£85, or £130 with matched wines.

This is a dinner you'll remember for years. If you'd like to make a booking, please call Michael Caines at Abode on 0161 410 0108.
