STREET food is one of the restaurant scene’s current buzzwords, used to refer to a large spectrum of local-inspired cuisine that varies in authenticity. One place that doesn’t use the term lightly is Scene Indian Street Kitchen, whose lunchtime thalis reflect real Indian traditions.
Gordo’s £8.95 thali lunch made him a very happy man indeed
Popular throughout India, thalis comprise five or six different dishes, served up on a special metal plate. Much like a Lancashire hot-pot, they blend a range of textures and tastes and are unsurprisingly a regional favourite. Not only do they make a wholesome meal, the range of dishes such as dal (lentils), mixed salad and vegetable curry - served up with poppadoms, Indian breads, onion bhajis and cooling raita - make them exceedingly good value. Gordo’s £8.95 thali lunch made him a very happy man indeed. (Scene offer vegetarian, chicken or lamb thali options)
Add a soft drink, glass of wine or half pint of lager for £1, relax in Scene’s riverside dining room, and make yourself at home. You won’t get that on Curry Mile...

If this got you excited for a foodie trip to India, remember to first get your Indian visa application sorted out. It may be surprising to hear, but British travellers do require a visa when going to India.
