The innovative Michelin-starred chef has partnered up with food delivery app Uber Eats
The first lockdown will have driven some parents to distraction trying to come up with three meals a day, whilst working from home. Now Tom Kerridge has stepped in to help those who might be running out of inspiration.
The owner of the two-Michelin-starred Hand & Flowers, as well as The Bull & Bear in Manchester’s Stock Exchange Hotel, and other highly esteemed restaurants, has partnered with Uber Eats to launch the ‘Tiny Tasting Menu’ in Manchester and London only.
We wanted to offer this for free so that parents with all budgets can try these delicious dishes with their children
A recent nationwide poll of 1000 parents by the online food delivery platform reveals 84% of parents struggle to get their kids to taste new ingredients.
Just 24% of parents of children aged 6-14 would describe their children as adventurous eaters, and 12% even admitted their children won’t eat vegetables.
In fact, 20% of parents said their children preferred pre-packaged food over freshly made despite their best culinary efforts, while 33% admitted to cooking the same meal three times or more in one week. Despite the coronavirus meaning many families now spend more time together in the same house, some 43% of parents don’t spend one meal a day at a table with their children. Remarkably, some 11% of children haven’t tried broccoli, and 17% have yet to sample beef. The Tiny Tasting Menu aims to introduce kids to foods they may not yet have tasted, including sprouts (49% hadn’t tasted) and gherkins (61%).
“I was surprised to see how few children are adventurous when it comes to trying new foods, so I wanted to create a menu that will hopefully help parents introduce them to try new flavours,” says Kerridge.
“Eating together as a family is so important, and it’s even more meaningful when the kids can feel grown up by eating the same things as mum and dad. While we normally think of tasting menus as being really expensive, we wanted to offer this for free so that parents with all budgets can try these delicious dishes with their children.”
The five-course menu, which is available for just the cost of delivery, features a truffle cheese toastie and cured salmon tart designed to expand children’s tastes and encourage them to try new foods.
Only 125 ‘Tiny Tasting Bundles’ will be available on Tuesday 17th November 2020, on a first-come, first-served basis until stocks last. Deliveries will be available within a three-mile radius of The Bull & Bear, 4 Norfolk St, Manchester M2 1DW. As well as the city centre and Ancoats, this covers areas such as Hulme, Levenshulme and Cheetham Hill as well as parts of Salford, Old Trafford and Chorlton.
The junior feast was developed by Tom, whose Hand & Flowers gastropub in Marlow has two Michelin Stars, and whose partnership with Uber Eats marks his first partnership with food delivery apps. The dishes, which come as a complete bundle, aim to introduce children to new tastes and challenging ingredients in a way that’s both fun and delicious, and are available for free (except for the delivery charge.)
The full menu includes:
Puffed Pork Rind and Gherkin Ketchup
Berkswell Blue and Truffle “Cheese Toastie”
Cured Salmon, Avruga Caviar and Spinach Tart
Pulled BBQ Beef Brisket with Smoked Mashed Potato, Salted Anchovies and Caper Butter served with Wilted Sprout Tops

Toussaint Wattinne, General Manager of Uber Eats, UK and Ireland said:
“Tom’s menu is absolutely sensational, and we hope it will help parents to fight one of their biggest battles: getting the kids to try new foods.
“We’re expecting the Tiny Tasting Menu to be hugely popular, as it taps into two trends we’ve seen on the app since lockdown: a greater variety of delicious food becoming available on Uber Eats, as well as an increase in people ordering meals for the whole family to enjoy.”
Deliveries will be available within a three-mile radius of The Bull & Bear - 4 Norfolk St, Manchester M2 1DW between 2.30pm-8pm on 17th Nov (or while stocks last).
