Orange says Toast will be the best thing since sliced bread

A ‘unique coffee house and eatery’ is to open next month on the ground floor of Altrincham’s former Barclays Bank, with what they say is a brand new concept... serving things on hot bread.

Co-owner Justin Orange, twin brother of Take That’s Jason Orange, will manage the shop with the backing of their other brother, Sale Sharks owner Simon Orange, while chef Ed Carr will man the toaster.

Justin previously managed Teacup Kitchen in Manchester's Northern Quarter, while chef (and, it says here, 'leader') Ed has previously worked alongside Mary-Ellen Mctague at Aumbry, after they both met while working at the Michelin starred The Fat Duck. (Perhaps it was Ed who influenced Mary-Ellen’s decision to serve Breville toasties at her new Manchester Art Gallery cafe.)

Toast will offer several different types of freshly baked bread from Trove in Levenshulme – including a gluten free option – in a menu divided into four categories; all day breakfast on toast, lunch on toast, toastless dishes without toast, and desserts on toast, such as Dutch apple pie or Nutella and marshmallow.

Classic baked beans on toast will set you back £4.50, though there’s no mention of whether these will be home made and slow cooked or straight from a tin. Other lunch toppings include white crab, lime, rocket and coriander (£9.50), poached egg, chorizo, nduja and paprika (£7), cheese on toast with baked egg and truffle oil (£9) or sesame chilli prawn (£9.50)

Toast plan to open to the public on Saturday 16th September, with a soft opening on Friday 15th September - all proceeds from which will go to the Children's Adventure Farm Trust.

In the meantime, other places serving things on bread include Upper Crust, Subway and Boots.
