SAN CARLO - the family-run group behind Manchester's San Carlo, Cicchetti, Fumo, Bottega and Farmacia Del Dolce restaurants - has been featured within The Sunday Times Profit Track 100 'Ones To Recognise'.

The group has grown considerably over the past five years but we are still very much a family business

The newspaper highlighted the group as one of the '10 Rising Companies' in their annual ranking of Britain's fastest growing private companies (by average profit growth).

The ten rising companies record profit growth just short of the Top 100 but potential for rapid growth in the future.

The Top 100 companies in this year's rankings all recorded annual profit growth above 42.5% over three years. Cheshire-based retailer, The Hut Group, topped the list with 217% profit growth (the average was 68%).

San Carlo - who recorded a £2.2m profit growth - featured in the top ten rising companies alongside meat substitute brand Quorn and British vacuum brand Gtech.

Carlo Distefano, Chairman of San Carlo Group which was founded in 1992, said: "We are delighted to be mentioned in the Sunday Times Profit Track 100 'Ones to Recognise'.

"The group has grown considerably over the past five years but we are still very much a family business. The San Carlo name is not only known in the UK but also internationlly in the Middle East and Asia. These are very exciting times for us with new sites planned for London, Dubai and Bahrain."

Marcello Distefano, Managing Director added: "Our growth has come through a recession and we believe this reflects our constant focus on quality and, of course, our customers. We have continued to show like for like sales growth in an increasingly crowded market."

San Carlo - which now operates seventeen restaurants in the UK and one in Bangkok and Kuwait - celebrated a decade in Manchester last year.
