Plans for The Range include high-tech simulators, membership areas, bars and a kitchen

Donald Trump - who spent sixteen of his first 100 days in presidential office on the golf course - may soon not be the only one coming under fire for time spent on the range, as the suits of Spinningfields business district prepare to be tempted away from their desks by an entirely new proposition.

Planning documents passed to Confidential this week reveal plans to establish a high-end virtual golfing bar beneath the upmarket Leftbank apartments in Spinningfields.

The applicants, Golf Venues Ltd, intend to install five top-of-the-range golf simulators, a raised putting green, two bars and a kitchen in an unoccupied first floor space above Scene Indian restaurant and the newly opened Beastro.

The application - currently under review by the council - reveals that the long-term vision for the site is to gain enough members so that the facility may eventually become a ‘private members club’ with no public access.

Members will be able to take advantage of such benefits as golf lessons, club fittings, competitions and a private members’ bar. Rah-rah.

Proposed opening hours are 10.30am to midnight seven days a week.

However, a source close to the project told Confidential that some Leftbank residents are likely to object to the scheme, having witnessed multiple new bars and restaurants open in the riverside development in recent years.

A statement from landlords Allied London said:

"Allied London are always looking to develop the tenant mix at Spinningfields and bring new uses and quality experiences to the estate and the city. We are exploring a change of use for one of our retail spaces at Leftbank, and are dedicated to delivering a concept that reflects the evolution of the Spinningfields brand and consumer."

The application remains under consultation until Friday 12 May.
