The ISP powering Manchester's free Wi-Fi hubs
TAKE a seat in a city centre cafe-bar on a weekday, and chances are, most people around you will have their eyes fixed on a screen while they sip their coffee.
Whether it's a smartphone or a MacBook, more and more of us are choosing to work and surf in public spaces. So it's no surprise that superfast, reliable Wi-Fi is now essential for venues that want to catch this work-on-the-go crowd.
One place that typifies this new trend is Ziferblat in the Northern Quarter. This is a pay-as-you-stay social space where everything is included in your 8p per minute rate: food, drinks, and Wi-Fi. It's frequented by freelancers, groups of friends, networkers, students – anyone who wants to relax, work, create or socialise in a friendly venue.
Like many of their neighbouring businesses, Ziferblat chose Manchester-based internet service provider Telcom to deliver a robust Wi-Fi service for their customers.
Ziferblat's head of operations, Gareth Harold, explains why: "Being a Manchester-based start-up, we wanted to work with people who were local to us and contribute to the city. Telcom do exactly that. It was a no brainer for us to work with them given the quality of their product and their sensitivity to our budgets."
Since it opened its first venue on Edge Street, Ziferblat has launched two more pay-per-minute venues: one in Liverpool and one in MediaCity. They both use a Telcom Unity internet connection.
Says Gareth: “Our guests and clients expect superfast connectivity to meet the demands of their businesses and we rely on Telcom to provide that. Our experience has always been a great one. Telcom are our first choice for connectivity. Their teams are first class and always provide an outstanding service.”
Telcom deliver their Unity internet service to many more public venues in the city centre, including Northern Quarter bars Takk, Fig & Sparrow, and Cottonopolis, plus the whole of Hardman Square in Spinningfields.
With good WiFi as integral to a cafe-bar as good coffee nowadays, that's a list that will only keep growing.
