MANCHESTER city centre may be teeming with Italian eateries but there's still only a handful that really get people excited. Piccolino is one. It celebrates ten years in business this month.
It feels like a secret Italian retreat in the centre of Manchester
Manager Ettore Cicchetti has been there from the start. Originally from Bologna, he says “It’s all about caring about what you do, from the guests to the staff. We treat them like family – it is the Italian way. When you look after people and give them great food with amazing service, they will come back,” said Ettore.
Piccolino is a success because it doesn't feel like Italy-by-numbers. The lively Italian spirit and language, authentic food and buzzing ambience even get the nod from homesick ex-pats.
One regular said, “As an Italian living away from home, I often have the urge for some home-cooking. There is no longer a need for me to book a flight, I push through the revolving doors of Piccolino and a little bit of Italy welcomes me.”
Another said, “You just feel at home in a room of friends. It feels like a secret Italian retreat in the centre of Manchester.”
The Manchester Piccolino seats up to 100 guests in its split-level dining room with a bar area and mezzo table for a relaxed drink or quick bite.
The restaurant prides itself on the quality and origin of its ingredients. Dishes include dry-aged steaks and market fresh fish and seafood. A new all-Italian wine list is rooted in regional favourites chosen to complement the seasonal menu.
