You could help fund Sugo's latest pasta restaurant in Sale's Stanley Square

In February this year, everyone’s favourite southern Italian pasta master announced that it was opening its doors in Manchester’s sizzling suburb of Sale. News set the social sphere alight, and the project began as part of the regeneration of Sale Precinct.

Now the sauce specialist is asking one last favour to get its new restaurant dreams over the line. With £85k short of the £275k goal, Sugo has set up a crowdfunding page and released a video on Instagram in the hope that it will get the extra boost needed to complete the fit-out.

There is an opportunity to pledge £1000 to enjoy unlimited for House Sugo for a year

“We’ve hit a funding brick wall,” explains the post, “The banks aren’t keen to lend to indie restaurants like ours due to COVID.”

The Sugo dynasty

Mike and Alex De Martiis, the brothers behind the restaurants, opened the first Sugo in Altrincham in 2015, quickly gaining a cult following thanks to decadent bowls of spoon-worthy pasta. The Ancoats Sugo site opened three years later and now the third restaurant will be part of Sale’s Stanley Square regeneration project that is being led by owners Altered Space in collaboration with designers Studio DBD.

Be part of Mancunian food history

In return for Kickstarter cash, crowd funders can "buy" various things to support the restaurant including the honour of seeing their name on the founder's wall, lunch and dinner vouchers, and if they pledge £1000, the opportunity to enjoy unlimited House Sugo for a year. Pledge £5000 and you can host your very own private party in the new restaurant when it opens.

Stanley Square's regeneration

With houses in the area rumoured to soar, anticipation for the spangly new town centre has been growing for some time. Sale’s new Foodhall from Mital Morar’s General Stores empire opened on Stanley Square in November, and a number of exciting independents are also thriving in the area.

Indian/Scottish fusion restaurant, Roti opened its second South Manchester branch on the square in July 2021, Neapolitan pizza experts Rudy’s opened in late 2020 and Altrincham’s Blanchflower is on the way in the coming months.

At the time of writing, over £10k has been pledged of Sugo's £85k goal within a few hours, so we're sure the talented team will reach their target.

You can back the project yourself on Sugo’s Kickstarter page.
