Harley Young gives her skin some much-needed winter TLC ahead of the festive season

At this time of year, our skin can take quite the beating.

Shorter, darker days that bring a near-constant lack of sun make our complexions look dull while those icy cold, blustery winds leave our cheeks red and sore. Not to mention the added stress of end-of-year deadlines, squinting at screens until late into the evening that can accentuate frown lines and crows feet. And who can forget all the overindulging on festive food and drink that unfortunately causes breakouts?

It seems like winter has it in for our appearance, so it’s times like now that a little extra TLC goes a long way.

City centre beauty clinic, Forever 22 Aesthetics, has devised a menu of deeply hydrating facials, treatments and ‘tweakments’ that help take care of your skin and provide a little confidence boost. Be gone, chapped lips, you’re not welcome here!

The team kindly invited my colleague Lucy and I down to try their ‘Forever 22 Signature Facial’; a premium, customized skincare treatment designed to rejuvenate and address individual skin concerns.

Before our treatment, we were welcomed into their beautiful clinic in true Northern style; with a nice hot brew and the warmest of smiles.

Once we were settled in, we were taken upstairs to the treatment room, a serene and tranquil space with warm lighting - none of those harsh, cool tones that make you feel like you’re about to be put under a microscope.

The practitioners put us right at ease, making sure we were comfortable on the plush beds before popping a blanket over to help us relax even further.

The treatment began with gentle cleansing of the skin, before moving onto steaming and exfoliation, using the AquaFacial tool to rehydrate and remove any dead skin left over.

Clean, exfoliated and free of any debris, it was time for the High-Frequency Therapy. Using an electrised wand and special cream that conducts static energy, this treatment helps to target bacteria below the skin's surface to prevent breakouts. It can also be used to target spots you currently have and break down the spot, helping the cells regenerate quicker and ridding your face of unwanted pimples.

A Forever 22 Hydrate sheet mask is then applied to the face to soothe and brighten the skin. I took the next 15 minutes to just relax and lay back, enjoying the tranquil music and comfortable ambience. Once the mask is removed, moisturiser and SPF are finally applied and the treatment is (sadly) over.

You aren’t rushed out the door though, you can take as long as you like to unwind and reset in the lounge with a biscuit, bottle of water and/or Prosecco. They truly go the extra mile to make sure you’re taken care of here.
