The team goes bistro in Act Three of ‘A Play in the City’

After 1,200 burgers courtesy of one cow (the generous Maraschino) and the honour of a few days on the Daily Mail’s sidebar of shame, Where the Light Gets In drew to a close Act Two of ‘A Play in the City’, Humbug, and put down their burger presses.

Now Act Three is upon us, Dacha, Sam and the team’s take on a bistro, courtesy of a four-course, fixed price “small [and] ever-changing menu shaped by the day’s best produce.”

Taking place once again at Kampus’ The Bungalow across from Canal Street, Dacha is open for dinner all week from 5pm to late, and for lunch from Friday to Sunday midday til 2pm.

On the concept for this act, the WTLGI team said: “Stripped back to reflect a balance between town and country, Act 3 offers a small, ever-changing menu shaped by the day’s best produce. It satisfies city appetites while staying rooted in rural traditions. The wines are natural and shift with the season, from cold dark nights to lighter spring evenings.

“We occupy this space when we need respite from the hustle and bustle, with weekend walks in the Peaks, in allotments and picnics in the park. It is a space we bring into our homes with house plants and veg boxes, with days pickling and baking cakes.

“Act 3 is an act of goodwill—to ourselves and our environment. A rejection of convenience in favour of cooking, making and mending. Once, cities were surrounded by market gardens, feeding their people daily. This month, we explore the spaces in between, asking how reconnecting with land could change the way we eat. In an age of fast food and instant delivery, could growing and cooking for ourselves be the future of resilience?”
