CONFIDENTIAL has been waiting for this one with bated breath.

“We know it’s been a long time coming but PLY promises to be a special space."

Back in mid-2014 the team behind Tariff Street's Kosmonaut announced it was to renovate a 5500 sq ft space off Stevenson Square and launch PLY - a new bar, restaurant and creative space for the Northern Quarter.

Now, PLY has finally fired-up the mirror ball oven and will open its doors next with with launch events planned for 25, 26 and 27 March. There's been noise of Neapolitan pizzas in 90 seconds flat in a 600°C hot wood-fired 'disco ball oven' imported directly from Naples. They further drummed up anticipation with the #PLYin90seconds exhibition, featuring seven internationally known creatives who each created a 90 second pizza-themed film via their own artistic medium (their work will drive the bar’s 2015 exhibition programme - details to be released soon).

The bar, which offers a selection of craft beers, globally sourced spirits and artisan coffee, will also act as a creative space to produce work, exhibit and network. Creative initiatives include a tailor-made book exchange, where drinkers will be welcomed to sit and read, and a large-scale doodle wall refreshed every six weeks.

PLY will also invite both solo artists and groups to come and make their mark; PLY: pizza, parties and performance art. Gotcha.

PLY’s interior is described as a 'fresh new design-led concept, with a mixture of classic and crafted pieces with an European influence' and the new space features locally sourced bespoke fittings including benches and lightboxes from Islington Mill’s Workroom Industries, interior styling and branding by PLY’s creative partner, Instruct Studio, alongside permanent artwork by Mancunian artist, Layla Sailor.

General Manager, Hana Kaczor-Dawson, said: “We know it’s been a long time coming but PLY promises to be a special space. Materials and features have been sourced from all over the world including our disco ball pizza oven, which involved shipping a team over from Naples to build. We’ve taken the time to fine tune the food and drink menus, creating just the right balance of Italian know how and local produce.

“We’ll be releasing launch details via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram so stay tuned for tickets and treats.”
