City Café has created an enlivening, indulgent menu featuring Sunday lunch favourites as well as bold, fresh-thinking options. It features some special touches – caviar, parsnip ice cream, 'chocolate soil'? Yet the price is a very reasonable £15.95 for three courses. Children under five eat free, and children under-twelve eat for half price.
To start, we like the sound of the ballotine of salmon with potato salad, sour cream, and caviar. But there's three other equally tempting options to choose from including a cauliflower soup with toasted almonds.
For main, you could opt for a traditional roast rib-eye of beef with Yorkshire puddings and horseradish cream, or go for the mushroom and ricotta pie with Swiss chard if you prefer something lighter.
The puddings look fabulous – marzipan panna cotta with caramel mousse and financier croutons could be the winner for us. Though someone at your table really ought to order the Manchester tart with Boddingtons ice cream, raspberry jelly, and caramelised banana.
City Café is well suited to family occasions like Mother's Day. Stylish but unpretentious, it's a light and airy restaurant that looks out over Piccadilly Plaza. The restaurant is part of the newly named DoubleTree by Hilton that was formerly Mint Hotel, and is just a few minutes stroll from Piccadilly Station.
Given the price and quality of this menu, we expect it'll be popular so book your table in advance to avoid disappointment. It is served for one day only on Sunday 18th March from 1pm to 4pm.
