SINCE the Gaucho-style restaurant Fazenda launched in Spinningfields in November, it has won a great many friends and admirers for the high quality and great value of its food and drink, and its charming service.

The ‘Meatrolink’ graphic is causing chuckles all over the city with its tongue-in-cheek version of the Metrolink system

And now, its Argentine director Tomas Maunier has created a South American tribute to Manchester with Fazenda’s very own take on the city’s tram network.

The ‘Meatrolink’ graphic is causing chuckles all over the city with its tongue-in-cheek version of the Metrolink system - a fun way to communicate the wonderful journey which diners experience at Fazenda.

First stop is the bountiful salad bar, which never fails to impress with its range of hot and cold starters catering for all tastes. Options include sushi, smoked salmon, cured meats, hot dishes and traditional Brazilian fare.

Then moving on to the freshly-grilled joints of meats, ‘churrascaria’-style (‘from the barbecue’), carved from joints at the table.

As the map shows, Fazenda offers chicken, lamb and pork but its main event is the 15 different cuts of beef, including fillet, rib eye and sirloin, alongside the cap of rump or ‘picanha’, the main cut in Brazil.

The journey is accompanied by really fine wines – and Fazenda’s love of good wine will be on display at its monthly wine masterclasses when diners can enjoy a Fazenda meal accompanied by some incredible wines.

The first event on Tuesday 17 February at 5.30pm focuses on the premium Italian wine label, Banfi. The cost of the wine tasting is free as the six wines to be tasted – two whites, four reds – are included in the usual evening menu price of £27.30.

White meats will be paired with white wines and the process repeated twice with the reds, with the tasting led by Carl Stanton from Bibendum.

At Fazenda wine masterclasses, diners can learn about wine in general and the different aspects of wine-food pairing. For this event, Carl will talk about the importance of the Tuscany region, home to Banfi, which was founded by Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani in 1978.

Tomas Maunier says: “With our authentic South American background, we offer a unique Gaucho-style dining experience at the highest level.

“We combine this with a driven passion for good wines. Our carefully selected wines are a key ingredient of the Fazenda experience. We have a temperature-controlled wine room and all staff are trained to the highest standards to advise customers on the best wines to accompany the dishes.”
