BEng Aeronautical Engineering degree helped Salman Iqbal land a job with Etihad Airways:

Salman graduated with a BEng in Aeronautical Engineering in 2004. He is now Cabin Interior Programmes and Projects Manager with Etihad Airways.

He explains how his experience at Salford has helped him today.

“The University of Salford focuses on not only the academic aspect of a degree, but also the practical side of entering the job market upon graduation.

Staff actively encouraged me to engage with the industry by registering with RaeS and ImechE. My school applied for placements with companies and I obtained interviews which provided me with priceless experience.”

He also spent some time in Sweden as part of the ERASMUS exchange programme with the University of Linkoping.

“Exposure to a global way of working as early on in your career as possible is very beneficial.”

First Class Honours graduate, Laura, moved straight on to a PhD studying Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus:

Laura Bennett graduated with a First Class Honours degree in BSc Zoology in 2011.

“Even though I didn’t achieve the best A level grades, I was determined to go on to university as I’ve wanted to study Zoology since I was five. I noticed Salford did a foundation degree in Environmental Science, which would enable me to then go on to do Zoology.”

For Laura, the best thing about Salford was that it gave her the opportunity to pursue a career in the field which she felt so passionate about from a young age.

“I am now a PhD student at the University of Nottingham where I am studying Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpesvirus. Salford has helped me become a better-rounded scientist as I gained experience in a number of areas relating to Zoology.”

One year placement led BSc (Hons) Environmental Management graduate, Malcom, straight in to a job:

Malcom Kerr graduated in 2014 and is now Systems Manager at Vita Cellular Foams UK Ltd (VCFUK).

“The things I learnt studying Environmental Management relate directly to what I currently do in my role at VCFUK. Without specific course content, I wouldn’t have the knowledge base required to apply for jobs at my current level.”

He took a one year placement working for VCFUK between his second and final year which led on to a job.

“The vast majority of students who took a placement throughout the years I was attending the course managed to secure a job when they finished university.”
