THE LAWN Club on Spinningfields, formerly In Bloom, formerly Hibernate, formerly smaller Lawns, then longer Lawns, now not as many Lawns, has changed form more times than Optimus Prime over the past few years.
Now they're ready to go again, and just in time for summer. Handy that.
There's also talk of croquet and Kubb out on the grass
The bar and restaurant closed earlier this year to make way for Quay House - that 'orrible slab of 60s Modernism which loomed over Spinningfields' only green space like an old Latvian hospital - to be demolished.
The new look Lawn Club, which reopens on Monday 18 May, will feature four main areas: the main bar, the Orangery restaurant, a new decking area and a private lawn - which we presume means what's left of Spinningfields lawns are no longer open to Tom, Dick or 'Arry.
Good news though, chef David Gale is still heading-up the kitchen and will unveil his latest menu - including a new Sunday Roast - following the relaunch.
Confidential editor Jonathan Schofield reviewed Gale's grub in November 2014 and 'adored' it, calling it 'the most cultured barbecue you'll ever have - with gourmet additions from a top class kitchen.'
The kitchen will also be offering picnic hampers to take out onto the lawn, alongside BBQ food from the fiery outdoor pit. Drink-wise they're going heavy on the artisan gin and craft beer, with a beefy wine, champagne and cocktail collection to boot.
There's also talk of croquet, Kubb and Pimms out on the grass. How painfully British, Archibald.
James Wrigley, Director of Fluid Bars said: “This new incarnation is a natural progression for The Lawn Club. We enjoyed huge success last year, and worked hard to develop the food and drink offerings, events and indoor/outdoor space design to create something that wasn’t ‘just another bar’.
Now, in partnership with Allied London, we’ve commissioned a new vision of The Lawn Club and we’re really excited to showcase the results."
