IMAGINE our surprise this morning when this email popped into our inbox…

Yes, according to News Daily 27 (sounds legit) and some Manchester media outlets, the multiple award-winning Hollywood actor, producer, musician (musician, really?) and Sexiest Man on the Planet for the last 47 years, has had his fill of LA and wants to move to Manchester.

Ah yes, of course, that's because it's an utter load of twonk...

“I’m just tired of the LA lifestyle,” Depp told an unnamed journo from an unnamed magazine, “and I feel like, at this point in my life, I’d rather just live in a place full of real, genuine people.

“I’ve been to Manchester, England a couple of times over the years and the people there are real… they’re genuine.

“And yeah every community has its problems,” he continued, “but the people there are good, decent people and they care about their community.

“I’m not retiring, I’m just looking for a change in life and I think I’ve found that in Manchester.”

Fantastic. Imagine that, Johnny Depp, a big Hollywood actor, famous for his portrayal of such offbeat characters as Captain Jack Sparrow, The Mad Hatter and Edward Scissorhands, here, in Manchester.

Perhaps he was inspired by fellow Hollywood A-lister Samuel L Johnson, who only this week announced his intention to move to Liverpool.

But hold on just a wee minute, Mr Depp, what's all this we here about Norwich... and Bethelehem, Pennyslvania... and Burlington, Ontario?

AhAh

Ah yes, of course, that must be because it's an utter load of twonk, published by a site which is, by its own admission, a 'fantasy news site' - one which all reported on Harrison Ford's move to Canterbury and Adam Sandler's move to Durham.

Well, at least the good people of Manchester, unlike some local outlets, weren't duped into believing this nonsense...

Oh no wait...

The local news source which first carried this story has now removed the article.

So what happened? Had they been hacked? Had they dropped acid for breakfast? Or had they hastily whipped an email out to their database with the hope of scoring a few hits in order to up their stats and not get fired. If so, shame on them, you'd never catch us...
