You need veggie and vegan pizza at I Knead Pizza
PLANT-BASED pizza is good to go at Reddish-based I Knead Pizza – and it’s as good to stay in the relatively new, chilled-out restaurant where craft beers and locally handcrafted sodas come courtesy Thirst Class Ale and Alphabet Brewery micro-breweries, and Stockport Gin, Salford Rum or Steep Soda soft drinks.
Keeping it local is one of I Knead Pizza’s buzz phrases, but even that isn’t the festival and event pop-up turned bona fide bricks-and-mortar venue’s biggest USP. That would be the generous amount of pizza choices that swerve your standard meat toppings (pepperoni, ham, prosciutto, n’duja) and fish favourites (Puttanesca), and veer down the more adventurous vegetarian avenue. If it’s a slice of veggie and vegan pizza action you’re after, you’ll not find as many options as at I Knead Pizza, where the finger-licking floppy Neapolitan-style meat- and fish-free creations stretch well into double figures, with nine vegan options plus three vegetarian, using veggie-friendly fior di latte mozzarella and goats cheeses, and – if we’re going to be really sly – even one flexitarian (the Parmesan used in the Pesto contains rennet).
In the vegan corner, the Marinara is completely cheese free, dairy-free or otherwise, combining the finest flavour-packed San Marzano tomatoes imported from Italy with oregano, fresh basil and extra virgin olive oil. Topping off the 48-hour proved dough made using 00 flour and cooked in authentic Italian wood-fired ovens, it’s simple but satisfying.
Elsewhere, it’s all about the locally grown produce – the Roast Veg pizza has roast peppers, wild broccoli and grilled aubergine, along with tomato, chilli and garlic. There’s also plenty of vegan cheese and even vegan salami, tofu hotdogs and protein-packed meat alternative seitan.
Not bad at all.
