The dining destination, market hall and music venue will open on Oxford Road in July
Just a few days into the year of the ox and Bruntwood has announced a beast of a new pan-Asian opening for its enormous Circle Square development.
Taking inspiration from renowned Asian dining destinations Bang Bang Oriental in London and 1800 Lucky in Miami, Hello Oriental is set to open here in July 2021.
Our new market hall experience will be a place for food-lovers of all backgrounds to come together
It’s a new venture from the Chi Yip group, the force behind well-known Manchester restaurant Ocean Treasure and the recently launched online supermarket also called Hello Oriental.
Chi Yip Group was founded by the late Stewart Yip in Manchester in 1980.
This subterranean space which will burrow down three floors will focus on Chinese and Vietnamese food and will also host live music and DJs.
There will be a huge market hall serving everything from dumplings to roast duck.
In addition, there will be a modern Chinese bakery serving freshly baked goodies as well as an in-house supermarket.
What do the people behind Hello Oriental have to say about it?
Ricky Yip, Owner of Hello Oriental, said: “When we launched Hello Oriental as an online supermarket 12 months ago, that was only the start of our journey. We also wanted to deliver the very best Asian and oriental produce to our customers in Manchester, but we needed a flagship venue that would bring our vision to life.
“It was clear to us that Circle Square is the perfect place for us, a new city neighbourhood that is bringing people together and creating a really thriving community.
"We can’t wait to launch Hello Oriental this year and we’re confident that our new market hall experience will be a place for food-lovers of all backgrounds to come together, socialise and enjoy the very best Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine.”
Azim Kourah, Director of Hello Oriental, added: “We’ve always had one goal – to bring the finest oriental food to the people of Manchester to enjoy.
"Moving to the city’s newest, fast-growing neighbourhood enables us to reach new audiences through an original concept and delivered with the same exceptional levels of quality and service we’re famous for.”
Tom Renn, Managing Director, Bruntwood SciTech – Manchester, added: “The very best cities around the world are known for being hotbeds of culture, entertainment and social activity, and that vibrancy and community is exactly what will be on offer at Circle Square.
"Hello Oriental is a fantastic concept that will appeal to the students and residents that call Circle Square home, as well as to the office workers and visitors alike.”
Is Oxford Road having its moment?
Manchester's Oxford Rd has never been a shopping destination and until recently, its dining options have been a lot more sparse than other parts of the city. It doesn’t have the Bohemians-meets-burgers pizzazz of the NQ, the bougie buzz of Deansgate and Spinningfields or the nouveau middle-class, post-hipster swagger of Ancoats.
But it does have a huge (and ever-growing) student population, myriad office workers and a residential community set to increase even more when Circle Square’s 1700 new homes are inhabited.
Is the area going to finally have its moment? Nearby, First Street is already home to some excellent restaurants (including Wood, Indian Tiffin Room and the underrated restaurant at HOME), next door to Circle Square there’s Hatch - the place to be for street food and craft beer in summer, on the side streets there are gems like Oishi Q and One Plus.
There are also some other exciting new openings on the cards for this year including the long-awaited new Bundobust and much-touted food hall Society MCR.
Then there are some of the best music venues in town, namely Yes, Deaf Institute, Gorilla and The Ritz, not to mention the Palace Theatre, all of which bring visitors looking for a pre-show bite.
Development of the dining options in this area is very welcome.
