CONFIDENTIAL PROMOTION
THE SUN was shining on Rust & Stone today just as it always shines on the righteous. But with delicious organic ingredients, it's easy to be good at Rust & Stone. You don't feel like you're missing out, quite the reverse in fact.
This was no airy-fairy rabbit food affair but a really substantial salad box
We found ourselves a suitable spot and got ready to tuck in. With its sheltered outdoor seating in a sun-trap in the heart of Spinningfields, Rust & Stone is the perfect place to soak up the last of the sun's rays as summer turns into Autumn yet the interior is cosy enough to ward off any chills.
The roast of the day was lamb so my decision was easy. Just a glimpse of the woolly blighters is enough to have me reaching for my knife and fork so I was more than happy. Served in slices of sourdough that had a perfect crust, the meat was pink and juicy. Topped with bacon, roasted peppers and tapenade mayo, it was a huge beast of a sandwich that would satisfy the heartiest appetite.
Washed down with a can of Camden Hells in the sunshine, this was about as good as lunch gets.
Across the table, the salad was similarly satisfying. This was no airy-fairy rabbit food affair but a really substantial salad box. The best bet is to opt for a little bit of everything. On today's menu was: mackerel, tomato and celeriac salad; sweet potato and asparagus salad; quinoa and olive salad; watermelon, couscous and feta salad. They were all great but the sweet potato and asparagus was a real stand-out – an unusual combination that really worked.
The peanut butter blender from the smoothies menu made the perfect dessert. It tasted every bit as sinful as the name suggests but with its organic peanut butter, banana and almond milk, it was just the right side of naughty but nice.
Rust & Stone is even better value right now. Until October 2, you can enjoy 50% off all soups, salads and sandwiches.
