THE doors are about to open on the latest venture from Gerry Yeung, well-known in the city for his work with brother Harry, at the Yang Sing.

Wokooshii was by far the most popular according to the market research we carried out. Wokooshii has an Oriental feel to it and is also different enough to be memorable and catchy.

Yeung has unveiled his new restaurant Wokooshii in the Trafford Centre.

Described as a fusion of Japanese and Korean food, Wokooshii is situated next door to Yeung’s successful Yang Sing Cathay at The Trafford Centre.

The branding for the restaurant was created by Altrincham agency RMS.

The name came via a complicated process according to MD of Ruth Shearn.

She said: “We created dozens of names from scratch, and Wokooshii was by far the most popular according to the market research we carried out. Wokooshii has an Oriental feel to it and is also different enough to be memorable and catchy. To maintain authenticity, our head of design, Dave Merrell, used a Japanese brush pen to create the corporate logo. He then created a strong visual theme for the exterior and interior of the restaurant.”

Gerry Yeung said: “This is the Year of the Dragon which hopefully bodes well for Wokooshii. In time to come we hope to roll out this brand nationally. The menu will feature a range of dishes that capture the very best of Japanese and Korean cooking.  New dishes will sit alongside classic favourites like Shabu Shabu, Tempura and Bibimbap.”

The restaurant employs around ten staff and represents £200k of investment in refurbishment.

It's all a bit odd though.

Confidential finds making up a name a curious notion when Korea and Japan both have perfectly good languages to reference.

We wonder if in some Trafford Centre equivalent in Shanghai perhaps there's a English German combination restaurant called something like Oldabbeyschnitzel. Not that it will really matter if the food tastes good and after all, ersatz suits TC of course.
