Greater Manchester has become the digital and tech hub of the North and initiatives like this one open up routes for those that might otherwise find it tricky to fund such a skill-based career. Since 2019, Shift Click has helped hundreds of young people hone their skills, going on to develop fulfilling careers in tech and creative industries, including renowned media organisations such as the BBC.

Whether you’ve just left college and are looking for an apprenticeship in the digital industry or  you’re keen to make a career change, Shift Click’s Introduction to Web Development course provides the kickstart needed to gain confidence, open doors and provide boundless opportunities.

“I couldn't be happier with MadLab, I don't have words to describe the impact it had on my path to be a developer. It was a complete game changer, not only because of the knowledge I gained but, especially, because of the mentorship I had. MadLab gave me the tools and skills I needed to start my journey and even helped on my next steps. I don't feel like I am alone on this journey anymore and feel a lot more confident,” says Luisa, a Shift Click candidate who secured an apprenticeship with AutoTrader and has since become an Early Career Junior Developer there.

Starting on 26 November 2025, applicants can gain practical experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript while developing an understanding of how websites are created and managed - all by committing just 12 hours a week for four weeks, meaning it can be worked around part-time employment and/or education.

Participants will be able to build an online portfolio whilst receiving access to regular wellbeing sessions and 1:1 support where required. Upon completion of the course, a Certificate of Completion and a Training Reference will be provided.
