Young Chef of the Year finalist and Angel at Hetton chef rustles up Autumn menu in Ancoats

A culinary wunderkind is coming from deep within the Yorkshire Dales to cook dinner for you in Manchester and all you need to do is buy a ticket.

Ancoats restaurant Elnecot is teaming up with Keaton Cooper, Demi Chef de Partie of Michelin-starred gastropub The Angel at Hetton for a one-off supper club on Wednesday 17 November. The evening will celebrate the bountiful ingredients of British Autumn with four courses and an optional wine pairing.

Food with depth of flavour and a real taste of the season we’re in was my focus

Keaton, 22, who made the 10-person shortlist for the final of this year’s Craft Guild of Chefs Young National Chef of the Year Award, is already one of the most exciting young chefs in the country. His CV boasts The Angel at Hetton’s recent ranking as the second-best restaurant in the country according to The Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards Top 50. The Angel at Hetton also came away with the Gastropub of the Year at this year's awards.

A supper club to suit the seasons

The Keaton Cooper Elnecot supper club will be a seasonally-minded affair, making the most of carefully-sourced ingredients. Kicking off proceedings will be the ultimate luxury winter warmer, leek and English truffle followed by red mullet. The third course will see a game-changing venison dish followed by a unique toffee apple creation.

A specially selected wine pairing has been chosen for the evening too.

The latest supper club at Elnecot comes off the back of a recent collaboration with natural wine purveyors It’s Alive, which also channelled the best of British ingredients for a one-off supper club.

Keaton’s follows in a similar vein, with produce sourced as locally as possible. “It’s very important for me going forward that the food industry steps up in managing food waste and the effect the food we serve in restaurants has on the environment. Serving ultra-seasonal food from where we’re from helps with that.” He says.

“I thought about the season and what food I’d want to go out and eat, that’s the most important thing for me. Would I enjoy eating it as the diner? Food with depth of flavour and a real taste of the season we’re in was my focus, venison is beautiful this time of year and the English winter truffles paired with the leeks is a real heart-warming dish packed full of flavour to start the menu off, then ending with the sweetness of English apples that we’ll caramelise in their own juice to create a real tasty evening.

“The menu is understated with its descriptions but that leaves me free to push these dishes to really surprise the diner and show what I’m truly about as a chef.”

Keaton’s own experiences eating at Elnecot inspired the collaboration, citing the ambience and style of the Ancoats restaurant as a big pull. The supper club will be Keaton’s first with more touted for the future.

The Keaton Cooper x Elnecot supper club will take place on Wednesday 17 November from 6pm. Tickets are £65 per head with an optional £30 wine pairing for each course. Bookings by email or phone.
