Joel Wilkinson, owner of The Deaf Institute said: “Our customers are ready for something new and we are confident the exciting new food menu will be well received. We ask people to bear with us while we work towards the re-launch. We will open fully for business in the first week of September. A further announcement sharing all of our plans will be made soon.
“We are keen to support the Universities long terms plans to bring more students and professionals to the area. By re-vamping The Deaf Institute, we are adding further excitement to their investment and providing another reason for people to be drawn towards Oxford Road for leisure purposes.”

One rumour doing the rounds is the company might be aiming for the more fine-dining end of the market. Wilkinson's words perhaps hint at this.
The six -year old Deaf Institute is part of the Trof family, which now includes Gorilla and Albert Hall, and is known as one of Manchester’s top music venues, hosting musicians and bands in the past including The xx and Florence and the Machine, plus popular club nights, including Pop and Girls on Film.
The work on the ground floor area will last for seven weeks and mean reduced hours of trading. The Deaf Institute will continue with its regular Friday and Saturday club nights and weekend gigs, plus additional mid-week gigs in the events calendar. The venue will only open when hosting an event with a take-out style burger menu - the rest of the time it will be closed.
