Volta’s worldly new cocktail menu boasts homemade blends and an element of surprise
WITH its raft of food awards and famed small plates, not to mention those Sunday rare breed roasts, it can be easy to forget that Volta is a bistro and bar. But the drink offering at this West Didsbury hotspot is just as strong as the food.
If you need any proof, look no further than the new cocktail menu, which spans old favourites to Bloody Mary’s exotic cousin. Hangover cures jostle alongside breakfast tipples and an international flavour reflects the Volta ethos. From Mauritian Mai Tai to Parisian Martini...who needs long plane journeys when you can whisk your taste buds on a round-the-world trip?
Partial to a spot of gin? How about Aviation - a tasty blend of Old Tom gin, maraschino cherry liqueur, lemon and crème de violette - or an iconic Old Fashioned, using American gin aged in bourbon casks for a distinctive flavour?
Volta also serves a fine selection of craft beers and real ales
For those who prefer their whiskey, you can’t beat a sour: Jim Beam whiskey, egg white, sugar syrup, lemon and a dash of bitters. Sazerac is another heady concoction; blending absinthe, Sazarac Rye, Angostura and Peychaud’s Bitters with bourbon and optional brandy.
Those after the ultimate hangover cure, meanwhile, should find salvation in Bloody Mary: Volta’s own infused chilli and coriander vodka with tomato juice and Worcester sauce. These are made to order so any special requests and Volta will try to accommodate (within reasonable limits of course). Our advice? Team with one of their Saturday dishes for best effect. From brunch to lunch, small plates to large plates, you’ll easy find something to suit.
If a cocktail’s not what you’re after, fear not: Volta also serves a fine selection of craft beers and real ales - available on draught, on cask or canned and bottled. Featured breweries include Beavertown, Brooklyn, Alphabet, Cloudwater, Magic Rock and Brew by Numbers to name but a few.
They even have their own pale ale, brewed in collaboration with The First Chop Brewing Arm and featuring artwork by local illustrator Stanley Chow.
Enjoy all of this and the rest of the delights on offer across Volta’s two floors; bring the world and his wife if you fancy, Volta’s middle floor has enough room for private parties or just those larger bookings.
We’ll drink to that.
