AFTER recently taking over from Simon Rogan as head chef at The French at the Midland, Great British Menu-winning chef Adam Reid has revealed a new midweek lunchtime menu more suited to his own cooking style. Ahead of a scheduled overhaul of the famous restaurant in February, to reflect a more urban environment, Reid has introduced a range of small and large plates, snacks and desserts (or 'afters') to encourage customers who are after a more casual daytime dining experience.
The new midweek lunchtime menu will be available every Wednesday and Thursday from 12 to 1.30pm
The new menu features a range of mix and match dishes ranging in price from £3 for freshly baked sourdough bread, to £12 for larger plates such as grilled plaice with mussels and carrot.
Reid told Confidential the new menu was a ''trial with slow implementation at the moment - in order to get it right before the restaurant relaunch in the new year."
Earlier this month the chef told us The French would be undergoing a "style change, more reflective of the way I feel comfortable cooking."
“I want to bring in more of an urban industrial Manchester feel," said Reid, "modern and interesting.”
This will be another move towards modernisation for the 103-year-old hotel, which underwent a £12 million renovation in 2012, including a transformation of the iconic French restaurant and the introduction of sister dining and bar venue, Mr Cooper’s House and Garden.
The French was named 'Premium and Fine Dining Venue of the Year' and awarded 'Front of House Team of the Year' at this year’s Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards 2016.
The new midweek lunchtime menu will be available every Wednesday and Thursday from 12 to 1.30pm.
The (typically cryptic) small plates menu starts with a selection of home baked sourdough breads (£3) with butter (£4) or with butter and beef broth (£5)
Here it is:
Snacks
Steamed bun, pig trotter and pickled onion (£4)
Fried broccoli, cheese and truffle (both £4)
Smaller Plates
Grilled langoustine, chicken skin and squash (£8)
Potato, ramson caper, black garlic, chestnut (£7)
