EMMA de Vere Hunt, 43, has created a range of ‘Adventures in a Box’ aimed at equipping and inspiring children to use their imagination and create their own fun in the great outdoors. Her range of ‘BattleBox’ kits provide everything young adventurers need to survive in the wild, build dens, ambush enemies and set up camp.

The kits range from £22 to £150 and can include everything young intrepid explorers need to survive in the wilderness and create their own adventures.

Emma thought up the idea when her son, Edward, had outgrown many of his old toys. Dismayed at the modern range of toys available the mum of three unassumingly set about creating the  first BattleBox kit to get her son outdoors and have a more traditional ‘Famous Five’ style childhood with his friends.

She said: “When my son, Edward, was about six he had outgrown the traditional wooden train sets and available toys seemed limited to television spin-offs or computer games. I have nothing against consoles or TV but children do need to learn that real life can be a much more interesting place to be.

“Edward is an energetic boy and I wanted to provide my son with a proper childhood, encouraging him to use his imagination, communicate directly with his friends and be stimulated and challenged. He loves being outdoors so I created a kit with clothes, equipment and tools - everything he needed to have an adventure.”

The first adventure box was such a hit with her son and his friends that Emma, previously a stranger to commercial enterprise, began developing more kits on a shoestring budget. Eventually the venture came to the attention of entrepreneur Jonathan Turner, CEO of the Bayford Group and his investment has since helped to catapult the kits out from the wilderness and onto the national stage.

The fledging BattleBox company founded by Emma is all about getting kids to realise how exciting the simple things in life can be, like sleeping under the stars being warmed by a crackling fire and exploring forests and hills. The Adventure Kits are now well on the way to help inspire a whole new generation of budding Ray Mears and Bear Grylls wannabes.

The kits range from £22 to £150 and can include everything young intrepid explorers need to survive in the wilderness and create their own adventures. There are three different kits available currently coming equipped with camouflage suits, stink bombs, catapults, tents, sleeping bags, and even marshmallows for toasting.
