Manchester restaurants pull out all the stops to help anti-hunger campaign
THROUGHOUT September and October, eighteen Manchester restaurants are joining the likes of The Fat Duck’s Heston Blumenthal, Angela Hartnett (recently seen showing Fred Sereix her favourite Venice sites on Remarkable Places To Eat) and star of Netflix’s Chef’s Table Asma Khan to support Action Against Hunger’s Love Food Give Food campaign.
Love Food Give Food has been running since 2008 and Action Against Hunger is hoping that this year will see a record number of restaurants joining the fight
Helping to raise money for the world-leading charity to fight hunger around the world, participating restaurants will add an optional £1 to the bill or donate a percentage of the proceeds of a special dish or menu item. The organisation is hoping to raise £550,000 over the two months, which can help provide life-saving treatment and safe, nutritious food to 13,000 children who are facing life-threatening hunger. Every £1 donated equals one day’s worth of food for a child suffering from malnutrition.
Asma Khan has been supporting Action Against Hunger for many years and her restaurant - Darjeeling Express, in Kingly Court, Carnaby St, London - will be taking part in Love Food Give Food this year. She says: "For me, food isn’t just about sustenance, it can be a vehicle of change. It is about feeding people and nourishing their souls. This is why I am thrilled to be supporting Action Against Hunger’s campaign, a charity that I have been supporting since my very first supper club."
