The brothers behind Yu will open Taberu this summer, with a focus on Far Eastern street food
From Easter bunnies to Eastern buns… it’s been less than a week since we announced nine new Manchester openings but already Confidential has received word of another, this time from the proprietors behind Chinese restaurant Yu.
Victor and Vinny Yu, the brothers behind the Alderley Edge gaff, are venturing out of the Cheshire suburbs with their latest venture Taberu; an express bao bar, due to launch in the former Lloyds bank building at 53 King Street this summer.
Taberu, Japanese for ‘to eat’, will serve a range of Far Eastern street food; specialising in bao, steamed buns filled with meat and/or vegetables. There will also be a selection of noodles, fresh salads, snacks and Far Eastern drinks, from smoothies to an array of Chinese teas.
While there will be a small number of tables for people to eat in, the main focus will be on takeaway. Confident the healthy fast food focus will be a hit, the Yu siblings plan to open three sites in Manchester before expanding across the country.
Yu executive chef and co-owner Victor - who spent several months in Hong Kong developing the Taberu menu - said of the new venture: “We’re incredibly excited about opening Taberu. Yu in Alderley Edge has been open for over a year now and we felt the time was right to explore a different concept, which will focus mainly on lunch time trade.
“The site on King Street was exactly what we were looking for and our menu, which we’ve worked on with a number of excellent chefs, has a good variety of healthy, affordable options that offer something different to the normal sandwich people are keen to get away from.”
