JUST OVER a year after its triumphant £15 million relaunch, The Whitworth is set to host a free 'warped weekend' of art, music and the unexpected on 25-26 June, to celebrate the installation of a major new sculpture in Whitworth Park by Turner Prize-nominated artist, Anya Gallaccio.

Anya Gallaccio's new public sculpture in Whitworth Park will be only the second permanent public sculpture of the acclaimed British artist's career

The two-day WARP festival has been programmed by 15-25 year olds from across Greater Manchester and masterminded by youth arts collective Whitworth Young Contemporaries.

Through themes of folklore, trees and memory, the collective are inviting their peers to experience the gallery and the Whitworth Park in a completely different way.

On the Saturday the festival line-up includes electronic music acts from Henge (electro-cosmic dross synth) to Burgaboy and the incredible Cul dé Sac and Kaleidoscope Orchestra. Plus there's plenty of workshops, live art and art installations to enjoy along with the day's main events. There will also be market stalls from the Teenage Market.

Sunday will be a family-friendly day featuring performances from Tangled Dance CompanyQueenie Tea and a family rave by Big Fish Little Fish. Manchester Craft Mafia will be crafting away on the Sunday too.

The unveiling of Anya Gallaccio's new public sculpture in Whitworth Park - a reimagined tree in steel removed from the park during the Whitworth’s £15 million redevelopment - will be only the second permanent public sculpture of the acclaimed British artist's career.
