LATE NIGHTS, early mornings, mid-week quizzes. The Pen and Pencil on Hilton Street is the kind of bar you can end up spending far too much time in. They've loads of reasons to stop by this summer (and if you end up still there eight hours later, don't say we didn't warn you).
Their monthly Bottomless Brunch includes as much food and booze as you like for £35
First up, their DJ nights. The Pen and Pencil is open till 2am every Friday and Saturday night, with free entry and DJs playing an eclectic mix from 5pm (will you be the one still in your work clothes at 1.30am on a Saturday morning?) Here's what's coming up:
Friday 22 July: Thom Jackson 5pm-8pm, Damien Johnstone 8pm-2am
Saturday 23 July: Neil Scott 5pm-8pm, Chris Massey 8pm-2am
Friday 29 July: Pasta Paul 5pm-8pm, Dan Wainwright 8pm-2am
Saturday 30 July: Nathan Burroughs 5pm-8pm, Duncan Wallis 8pm-2am
Friday 5 August: Thom Jackson 5pm-8pm, Dave The Ruf 8pm-2am,
Saturday 6 August: Nathan Burroughs 5pm-8pm, Sam Flanagan 8pm-2am
The music will take care of that good time feeling but to get a double dose of weekend happiness, don’t miss The Pen and Pencil’s cocktails. There’s a bespoke list courtesy of their Master Mixologists as well as seasonal specials and all the classics. Mine’s a Fixer Upper.
Want a pick-me-up the next day? Their monthly Bottomless Brunch includes as much food and booze as you like for £35 – with options such as Steak and Eggs and the Aylesbury Duck Bloody Mary proving especially popular.
The next one on Saturday 30 July has been sold out four weeks in advance. Book early for the August Bank Holiday Bottomless Brunch – it's on Sunday 28 August from 10am-2pm. Just email info@thepenandpencilnq.co.uk.
Tuesday nights are another busy time at The Pen and Pencil – their Pencils Down quiz starts at 7.30pm with four rounds including film and TV, general knowledge, music and a ‘wildcard’ round. Start thinking of your team name now – there’s a round of beers on offer for the best one.
What else? How about a live music night from indie label Scruff of the Neck records, home of bands such as Delamere and ist ist? It starts on Wednesday 7 September.
And if you’ve had many lost weekends at The Pen And Pencil, why not claw back some focus with their Breakfast Club networking meetings, held monthly between 8am and 10am? Forthcoming dates and guest speakers include:
Friday 12 August: Tom Cheesewright, technology entrepreneur – arrival from 8.30am
Friday 16 September: Claire-Marie Boggiano
Friday 7 October: Mark Stringer, Ahoy
