Community-minded canalside hotel fundraises for East Manchester Community Boat Project

The team from The Reach at Piccadilly are taking on a 97-mile charity canal walk for East Manchester Community Boat Project.

It’s a beautiful canalside route but coming in at just under 100 miles, it’s a challenging distance. However, it’s all in aid of a good cause.

Hoping to raise £500 for a new generator for the Community Spirit II, the hotel team will be strapping on their walking boots on Friday 8 May. A new generator will allow the community boat to travel further without needing to charge and increase its overall mileage range.

Peter Nye, General Manager of The Reach at Piccadilly Manchester, said: ‘I am incredibly proud of our team taking on this challenge. Supporting smaller local charities like the East Manchester Community Boat Project is something we hold close to our hearts.’

The walk covers six different canals in four counties and it starts at Lock 84 on the Rochdale Canal right outside The Reach.

No doubt, there’ll be blisters but there’ll also be a better boat at the end of it. Founder and Co-Chair of the East Manchester Community Boat Project, Nigel Anderson, was singing the praises of The Reach and its charitable endeavours:

‘My co-founder, Sue Steventon and I have been both humbled and impressed with the fabulous support we have received from The Reach over the past two years. We can only provide our 'free of charge' experience based on additional external support from organisations like The Reach at Piccadilly. I wish the team well with their latest endeavour and look forward to greeting them at the end of this momentous challenge. Thanks yet again to the staff of the Reach.’

The walk is a demonstration of The Reach’s commitment to local communities, heritage, and the waterways that connect them. All proceeds will directly benefit the East Manchester Community Boat Project, helping ensure Community Spirit II can continue providing educational, recreational and community services along the region’s canals.

Why not call in to The Reach for a meal or a drink and donate to the cause while you’re there?
