THE contestants are in and the competition has officially begun. It’s time to vote for the best dressed duck in the 2016 Manchester Duck Race.
May the best duck win.
Companies from across the city have taken rubber ducks and transformed them into a variety of creative characters, all of which can be found on the Spinningfields Facebook page.
There are some familiar faces with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Captain Quack Sparrow and even Batduck making appearances, alongside Minions, spaceduck Tim Beake, and Lady Liberty.
The entry with the most likes by Friday 25 March will win a day’s play at Lancashire County Cricket Club, so make sure you have your say, and may the best duck win.
(Confidential wouldn’t want to influence your vote in any way whatsoever, but that glittery duck with the rainbow feather headdress really caught our eye.)
Taking place across Spinningfields and New Bailey, this year’s event will be bigger than ever with plenty of activities throughout the day for an exciting start to your long Easter weekend.
The fun begins at 11am with a variety of workshops, fairground rides and the Urban Petting Farm, plus street food for when you begin to get peckish.
Cheer the ducks on as they take to the water, with the corporate race at 2pm followed by the family race. Get a good spot by the River Irwell so you have a clear view as they rush towards the finish line. The ducks will be released by Coronation Street favourite Jack P Shepherd and pupils from the 13 Performing Arts School.
The first five ducks across the finish line in both races will win a prize, generously donated by businesses from across the city:
