THE transformation, modernisation and gentrification of Manchester’s Northern Quarter continues apace with a further raft of new openings announced this week.
A MAD spokesperson told Confidential the group would soon be launching a new 'mega bar'
The latest batch, centred around the perennial confusion of Stevenson Square, will take the number of drinking establishments on or just off the square to a hefty dozen - 50% of which have opened in the past three years.
Following major renovation works, the ground floor of the Hatter's Hostel on Hilton Chambers (once home to the original Koffee Pot and recently deceased NQ Laundrette) is to re-open next month as West Corner, an all-day New York-style deli, diner and cocktail bar.
Serving typical British and American fare, including 'gourmet breakfasts to grilled sandwiches' (and yes of course bloody burgers), from 7.30am to midnight, the kitchen will be headed-up by ex-Hawksmoor, CAU and Jamie's chef Romin Farahini.
Nearby, Mark Andrew Developments (aka MAD Ltd) – the company behind a number of Manchester restaurants and bars including Infamous Diner, Walrus and Hula - have been busy renovating the old Habib House/Taylor's Mill on Stevenson Square, next door to their other establishments Rosylee and The Fitzgerald.
A MAD spokesperson told Confidential the group would soon be launching a new 'mega bar in central Manchester' - almost certainly a reference to their Stevenson Square project.
Plans and a license application were submitted back in May for the late night venue, under the working name of ‘Selfless’. The new venue is expected to open in February 2017.
Meanwhile, MAD's Stevenson Square neighbours, Noho Ltd - owners of Dusk 'til Pawn, Wood & Co. and NoHo - are preparing to launch a new 300-capacity European-style beer hall just around the corner on Dale Street later this week.
