The restaurant on Didsbury’s School Lane that many of you knew as Hispi has changed.
It is now Arcadian. And, according to Gordo, it has got even better.
Arcadian comes from the highly regarded restaurant group led by Andrew Sheridan, whose Restaurant Eight in Liverpool has scored more than 18/20 with Confidentials, putting the cooking firmly into Michelin-star territory.
But Arcadian isn’t hushed, white-tablecloth fine dining.
This is food with fire, spice, attitude and love.
Superb ingredients are cooked over open fire and charcoal, producing big, confident flavours without overcomplicating things.
Gordo has already been in. He loved it.
The flatbreads will blow your socks off. The hash browns are crisp outside, melting inside and may well be the only hash browns you’ll ever want to eat again.
Then there are the charcoal-grilled, elegantly spiced lamb chops, marinated overnight and served with raita, mint chutney, burnt lime and pickled red onion.
Gordo reckons they are arguably one of his top five dishes of the year.
And if you fancy a cocktail, look out for the beef-fat Old Fashioned. Gordo compared it to drinking at the George V in Paris, except the one there cost him around £100 and wasn’t as good.
The other good news is that many of the old Hispi faces are still there. If you were a regular, you’ll recognise them.
