FRIDAY FOOD FIGHT

The mass gathering of street food and drink vendors from across the land is back, and it's got new digs. Following on from successful stints at Upper Campfield Market Hall in Castlefield and Brownsfield Mill in the Northern Quarter, B.Eat Street are back for another round of Friday Food Fights which promises even more grub, booze and live music and the chance to sample a range of delicacies in an environment far removed from any restaurant, in Deansgate's Great Northern Warehouse. The Friday food party is back, so bring your Friday fat pants.

NORTHERN SOUL

The story of one of the most important shifts in recent music memory, where the discovery of Black American soul music shaped a generation's view of the music and the club scene entirely. This film tells the tale of two young men dreaming of America and tracking down rare and obscure records that will catapult them to the scene's biggest Northern Soul DJs. Steve Coogan's in it too.

SOLDIER REMEMBERED

The story of a Salford soldier from the 1WW is to be dramatised in the galleries of IWM North on the 17 and 18 October through a one-off production in collaboration with the BBC Philharmonic. Letters from Arthur 'Pat' Burke will go on display to mark the 1WW Centenary, and his story has inspired a new composition by BBC Philharmonic, which will be performed with actors, musicians and 360 degree Big Picture Show cinematic projections in front of a live audience at the museum.

UNINTERESTING TOUR

This tour reveals odd sculptures, mad details, washed up remnants of things inside and outside buildings. Each tour will tackle a different area of the city centre and uncover massive quantities of uninteresting objects. This is an informative, entertaining and unusual look at what Manchester has got to offer with Confidential Editor, Jonathan Schofield.

JUDY'S VINTAGE

Started nearly a decade ago in Leeds, Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fairs are the largest of their kind and serve over 30 cities from London to Edinburgh and Newcastle to Bristol. Now, with a new home at Victoria Warehouse they’re returning to Manchester with over 60 years worth of stock and nearly fifty vintage stalls. There's booze too, and they know what they're doing... everyone's rich when they're pissed. Crafty buggers.

DESIGN MCR

Running alongside Manchester Science Festival 2014, Design Manchester caters to the more creative side of the city. Looking at a range of mediums from design, illustration, animation and photography as well as crossing over to the scientific aspects of the design process. There's an array of displays including 'Adidas SPEZIAL' (Fri 24 Oct) a collection of rare, dead-stock and re-issued trainers, as well as appearances from the likes of Manchester's Peter Saville - the 'UK's most famous graphic designer'.

BEAUTY OF THE BEAST

Local dance success story, Company Chameleonare set to première their latest work Beauty Of The Beast on home soil at the Lowry Theatre, during the venue's seven week DANCE season. The production is a mix of contemporary dance, theatre and live music, following a group of male friends and looking at the way their relationships are tested through a range of different scenarios. Don't try this one in the pub, mind.

MCR SCIENCE FESTIVAL

NOW in its eight year, the award-winning Manchester Science Festival kicks off on Thursday 23 October across 40 venues in Greater Manchester, finishing eleven days later on Sunday 2 November. Celebrating more city-wide collaborations than any of the previous festivals, this year's MSF features a diverse and vast range of internationally acclaimed art and cutting edge science including 3D Printing, Fracking, Bez and big, loud, flash, bang, wallops. Last year alone the festival welcomed crowds nearing 100,000 to over 150 events and exhibitions across Greater Manchester.

JOHNNY MARR

One of the city's most revered musicians is set to return to Manchester for a homecoming gig. Following the recent critical acclaim for his latest record, Playland, Marr has refused to sit on the legacy of The Smiths, which let's face it, he could have easily done. Instead he has continued writing music, toured extensively and earnt a reputation as a fantastic live act in his own right. Expect riffs.

NEON NIGHT

A fun filled 10k walk along one of the city's most scenic locations in aid of The Christie charity. Starting and ending at the Lowry Plaza there will be live entertainment from 6:30pm and each walker will be given a free special edition neon t-shirt to mark the occasion and to light up the Quays as the walk sets off at 8pm.

UTD VS CHELSEA

One of the most feisty encounters in the Premier League calender, Louis Van Gaal's new look United will get their first real test of the year, as the league leaders make the long trip up to Old Trafford from London. With Chelsea already running away on points in the early stages of the season, and looking mightily impressive doing so, if the Reds are going to bounce back from a shaky start then this is the ideal opportunity.

ZOMBIE WALK

What better way to spend Halloween than getting dressed up as a zombie, getting together with hundreds of other zombies, and trawling the streets doing the zombie. The UK's biggest zombie walk is back for its annual stint with ton of games, stalls, special offers and guests, and all in the name of the Zombie Aid charity who offer offer friendship and practical help to families who have suffered the loss of a zombie loved one. As with all zombie apocalypses things kick-off at 3pm.
