TREE OF CODES | Manchester Opera House | 2 – 10 July
Forming part of the Manchester International Festival, this spectacular ballet performance is an adaptation of Jonathan Safran Froer’s book Tree of Codes. Director Wayne McGregor and the award-wining composer Jamie xx have worked alongside dancers from The Paris Opera Ballet to put a contemporary spin on the story of one person’s last day of life.
THE IMMORTAL/REQUIEM | Bridgewater Hall | 4 July
Brought to you by Mark Simpson and BBC Philharmonic, The Immortal is an orchestrated narrative that delves into the dark mystery of the human preoccupation with death. It draws on the work of the author John Gray and will also be accompanied by a performance of Mozart’s Requiem.
THE TALE OF MR TUMBLE | Manchester Opera House | 11 – 19 July
Justin Fletcher brings this fun and entertaining show to Manchester International Festival as a special event for all of the family. Joyful songs and colourful visuals will tell the tale of Mr Tumble’s life right from the beginning. Children can also expect a guest appearance from Grandpa Tumble and Tootsie.
THE 6IXTH SENSE ANNIVERSARY TOUR | Manchester Opera House | 30 July
If you love all things spiritual and ghostly, Colin Fry’s strange and intriguing powers are back by popular demand in his new tour 6ixth Sense. Watch him live at the Opera House to see first hand how he brings the extraordinary to the ordinary.
INALA | Manchester Opera House | 24 – 25 July
Following a 2014 sell-out tour and an invitation to appear on the Royal Variety Show last year, Inala portrays an exciting visual of South African song and culture at the Manchester Opera House. The show incorporates both classical and contemporary dance with a musical score, put together by Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Mark Baldwin.
SHAUN OF THE DEAD LIVE | Dancehouse, Manchester | 22 – 24 July
Almost Legal Productions present this satirical theatre adaptation of Simon Pegg’s film Shaun of the Dead at the Dancehouse Theatre. If you’ve seen the film, you’ll know it combines comedy with a darker storyline that see’s Shaun’s monotonous life ripped to pieces by a zombie invasion. While all that’s going on, he’s trying to get his girl back. With audience interaction, it’s a not-so-scary show that literally gets you out of your seat.
THE STRIKER | Royal Exchange Theatre | 1 July – 1 August
Another one from the Manchester International Festival; the Skriker is a stage adaptation of Caryl Churchill’s work that brings together the old and the new. It stars fellow Northerner Maxine Peake as an ancient shape shifting creature who leaves her world to pursue two young women who are living in contemporary urban London.
THE GREEN EGGS & GLAM BURLESQUE REVUE | Dancehouse, Manchester | 17 July
One for the grown ups, this burlesque show is back by popular demand to shower The Dancehouse Theatre in all things weird, wonderful and wacky. Sexy but strange, it’s an entertaining night of cabaret you won’t forget.
FAULTY TOWERS – THE DINING EXPERIENCE | The Lowry | 30 July – 2 August
A tribute to the much-loved TV sitcom, this interactive dining experience is sure to have you laughing till it hurts. With two thirds of the show unscripted, and three actors attempting to impersonate the characters, you never know what will come next.
NAKED CONFESSIONS OF A RECOVERING CATHOLIC | Dancehouse, Manchester | 26 July
The Manchester-born TV and Radio presenter, Terry Christian, is returning to the stage this month to deliver his own stand-up comedy show. He opens up about his own childhood in Manchester taking a pop at sex, violence, religion and class. Not only does the show see him present genuinely funny stand up, but he also graces the audience with a very honest Q&A.
